In support of ****** Cancer Awareness month, the Nash Central girl’s tennis program held its annual Pink Match on Monday. However, it was also senior night for the Lady Bulldogs. Nash Central seniors Hannah Whitehead, Michalah Matthews, Ashleigh Lamb, Ahmani Applewhite, and Samia Silver were honored before the match for all that they have done for Nash Central’s girl’s tennis program. Another special aspect of the game was the charitable contribution made both the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Knights. Both teams donated paper products to The Sisters House, and this was definitely an honorable move by both schools.
As for the match, the Lady Bulldogs were victorious. Nah Central defeated Northern Nash 7-2, and the Lady Bulldogs finish the season with an 8-8 record and a 2-6 mark in the highly-competitive Big East conference.
Seniors that claimed victory in singles play include Hannah Whitehead, Michalah Matthews, Samia Silver, and Ashleigh Lamb. Whitehead defeated Hannah Adcox while Matthews beat Lauren Israel 6-1 and 6-3. In addition, Lamb was victorious against Diamonqne Hunter 6-3 and 7-5 and Samia Silver beat Jessica McKoy 6-0 and 6-3. Juniors Kaley Sharpe and Haley Baker also won on Monday night. Sharpe defeated Chelsea Lucas 6-2 and 6-4 while Baker defeated Nya Hunse 6-1 and 6-0.
In double play, the team of Whitehead/Applewhite was defeated by the duo of Lucas/Hunter 0-8. In addition, the pair of Matthews/Lamm was defeated by the combo of Adcox/Israel. Despite these losses, the team of Wall/Taylor was able to beat the duo of Hunse/McKay 8-0.
With the regular season in the books, the Lady Bulldogs will now compete in the Big East conference tournament, which will take place at Barton College Wednesday, October 14 at 2pm.
