Nash Central

Both Nash Central’s boys and girls basketball programs were looking forward to achieving great levels of attainment at the start of the 2015-2016 season, and both teams are currently poised to reach their season goals of winning the Big East conference this week. It has been a long way coming for Nash Central as the boys program hasn’t finished first in conference play since 2009 while the girls program hasn’t been on top since 2006, so this has definitely been an extremely special season for Nash Central.

With the 2015-2016 regular season nearing its conclusion, Nash Central head coach Terri Cash has provided tremendous leadership and guidance throughout the season as the Lady Bulldogs have already clinched first place in the exceptionally competitive Big East conference. The Lady Bulldogs are currently 19-3 and 8-1 in league play and will be the #1 seed in next week’s Big East conference tournament. Nash Central has won seven consecutive games, and the Lady Bulldogs recently beat Hunt on Wednesday, February 10th by the score of 59-43.

The Lady Bulldogs, who average 52 points per game while shooting 35% from the field,  have been able to achieve success this season due to a balanced scoring attack with sophomore guard Robbi Allen (14.0 PPG), junior guard Myia Spivey (8.9 PPG), and freshman guard Kayalin Mitchell (6.5 PPG) leading the way.

Defensively, the Lady Bulldogs have also been stout, and rebounding has been a major key to success for Nash Central as they average an outstanding 34.6 boards a game. Freshman guard Robbi Allen (6.6. RPG), senior center Caresha Leonard (6.5 RPG), junior guard Myia Spivey (5.6 RPG), and senior forward Rebeca Speight (4.0 RPG) are Nash Central’s leading rebounders.

The Lady Bulldogs will close out their season on Saturday afternoon in a rivalry matchup on the road against Southern Nash as Nash Central will look to finish off the season sweep of their cross-county rivals.

Nash Central’s boys basketball program has also accomplished much this season. Bulldogs head coach Renny Taylor has helped lead the Bulldogs to a 12-10 record with a 6-3 mark in the Big East.  Nash Central is currently in sole possession of first place in the Big East with Southern Nash (5-4) and Fike (5-3) trailing closely behind.

Senior guard Josh Mullins, who is the leading scorer in the Big East conference, has been the catalyst for the Bulldogs, averaging 23.7 points per game. Also, junior guard Elijah Cole (15.2 PPG), senior forward KeShun Peoples (9.9. PPG), and junior guard Montre Cash (8.5 PPG) have been instrumental components of Nash Central’s high-powered offense, which averages 65 points per game.

While the Bulldogs currently hold first place in the Big East, Nash Central will put its status as #1 on the line at Southern Nash on Saturday evening, and the Bulldogs will need to emerge victorious to remain alone at the top of the Big East standings.  Since the Bulldogs are coming off of a heart-wrenching 5-51 overtime loss at Hunt High School, Nash Central is in the prime position to bounce back after this tough loss.
