Nash Central’s girls tennis, volleyball, and boys and girls cross country teams were all in action on Wednesday afternoon. Now, let’s take a look back at what the Bulldogs were able to accomplish.

Girls tennis excelled as usual. The Bulldogs are now 4-0 after a valiant 5-4 win against North Johnston. In singles play, Kayley Sharpe defeated Haley Stevens 6-2 and 7-5. Senior Hannah Whitehead was also victorious against North Johnston’s Skylar Thomas by the scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Michalah Matthews also won her match against Emily Bendick by the scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Junior Haley Baker also came out on top winning against Hannah Merlin 6-3 and 6-2. Ashleigh Lamb also had an effortful performance but fell to Cassidy Dowling 7-4, 4-6, and 6-10. Madison Wall also fell to Madison Capps 1-6 and 4-6. In doubles play, the team of Kayley Sharpe and Hannah Whitehead beat the duo of Haley Stevens and Cassidy Dowling 9-7. However, the combo of Lamm and Matthews fell to the team of Thomas and Bendick 3-8. The duo of Wall and Silver also lost to the team of Headly and Morris 2-8. All in, the Bulldogs performed well and were able to come out victorious.

The boys and girls cross country team was also spectacular. Nash Central traveled to North Johnston High School to participate in a three-team meet, which also included Princeton High School. The boys team finished with a perfect score and all Bulldog runners finished in the top eight. Montre Cash finished 1st, Kazelee Johnson finished 2nd, William Moody finished 3rd, AJ Styles finished 4th, Andre Diggs finished 5th, Joseph Cook finished 6th, Brittan Joyner finished 7th, and Andrew Grissom finished 8th. The girls team also had speedy finishers. Carish Leonard finished 1st, Linzi Long Finished 3rd, Kendell Nelson finished 4th, Cassidy Lee finished 5th, Anaiya Harris finished 6th, and Teonna Hill finished 7th. Nash Cental’s next meet will be on Wednesday, September 9th at Fike High School. Hunt High School, Rocky Mount High School, Northern Nash High School, and Southern Nash High School will also be participating in the event.

Bulldogs volleyball was also in play on Wednesday afternoon. While neither the varsity or JV team recorded a victory, both teams gave it their all and put up a resounding fight. The JV team lost 21/25 and 16/25 while the varsity team lost 14/25, 22/15, 25/21, and 23/25. The play by Nash Central’s middle, hitters, and blockers was especially exceptional. Caresha Leonard and Robbi Allen excelled, and their play received acclaim from one of the game’s referees. Nash Central’s next game will be at home on Tuesday, September 8th against Rocky Mount.

In all, the Bulldogs put up exemplary performances on Wednesday afternoon, and the effort exerted was limitless.
