On Tuesday, the Nash Central Bulldogs girls tennis program suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of an extremely talented Rocky Mount team. The Bulldogs are now 4-1 with an o-1 mark in Big East conference play. Kayley Sharpe lost 0-6 and 0-6 to Brenna Bryce while Ashleigh Lamm and Haley Baker fell to Mary Blair Thompson and Sarah Bland, respectively, by the same score. Hannah Whitehead and Michalah Matthews also lost to Chandler Brice and Eliza Fike, respectively. In addition, Madison Wall fell to Grace Warner 0-6 and 2-6. In doubles play, the team of Sharpe and Whitehead fell to the duo of Bryant and Brice 0-8. The pair of Matthews and Lamm also lost to the team of Fike and Thompson 0-8. The duo of Silver and Wall was also defeated 0-8 by the pair of Bland and Warner. Nash Central will next play on Wednesday, September 9th at Tarboro.

The girls golf team was also in action on Tuesday. In a 18-hole match yesterday at Birchwood Country Club, Hannah Sasser finished 2nd and Sara Joyner finished 10th. There were twenty total golfers at this event. Girls golf will have its next match on Thursday, September 10th at The River Golf Course. The other schools participating in the match will be Southern Nash, Rocky Mount, Hunt and Fike.

In addition, the Bulldogs varsity and JV volleyball teams were also in play on Tuesday afternoon.  JV lost 11/25 and 14/25. The JV team showed improvement and is making progress. It is evident that with a few adjustments the JV team will make a leap to greatness.  The varsity team also suffered defeat losing in four sets. Varsity lost 18/25, 19/25, 22/25, while winning 25/16. The Bulldogs were clearly in the game throughout, but Nash Central will have to shift its focus to details such as setting and hitting (kills), defense, and serve and receive on-court communication in order to have success. Nash Central will play its next game on Thursday, September 10th at Fike High School.
