On Monday, September 14th, the Nash Central girls tennis team bounced back well by defeating North Johnston 8-1. Kayley Sharpe claimed a 6-3 and 6-0 victory over North Johnston’s Haley Stevens while Hannah Whitehead defeated Emily Benedict 6-3 and 6-1. Also, victorious was Michalah Matthews, who beat Hannah Medlin 6-1 and 6-1, and Ashleigh Lamb, who beat Abby Morris 6-3, 4-6, and 10-7. Samia Silver also won as she beat Madison Capps 3-6, 6-4, and 10-6. In addition, Madison Wall was resilient on Monday, but she fell to Luney Headley 4-6, 7-5, and 6-10.
In double play, Nash Central dominated. Kayley Sharpe and Hannah Whitehead teamed up and defeated the pair of Stevens and Benedict 8-4. The duo of Matthews and Lamm also got together to beat the team of Medlin and Caps 8-2. Lastly, the combo of Baker and Taylor defeated Morris and Capps 8-6.
Nash Central is now 6-2 and will look to earn its first Big East win on Wednesday at Northern Nash.
The JV and varsity volleyball teams were also in action on Monday. While it was a hard fought battle, JV lost in two sets 25/16 and 25/17. Also, varsity’s efforts was limitless but fell 25/19, 25/22, 25/12. Nash Central will next play Northern Nash on the road on Tuesday, September 15th.
