The Nash Central Bulldogs girls tennis program earned its first Big East win on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Northern Nash 6-3, and Nash Central is now 7-2 and 1-2 in the Big East. Seniors Hannah Whitehead and Michalah Matthews walked away victorious against Hannah Advocates and Lauren Igresl, respectively. Whitehead won 6-1 and 6-4 while Matthews won 6-2 and 6-4. Asleigh Lamb also claimed victory. Lamb beat Dominique Hunting 6-0 and 6-3. Haley Baker and Madison Wall also won on Wednesday night, beating Emma Thomas and Jessica Cary, respectively. The score for both victories was 6-0 and 6-1. Junior Kayley Sharpe was also relient, but Sharpe fell to Chekea Lucas in a tough battle.
As for doubles play, the team of Silver and Taylor defeated the pair of Thomas and Cary 8-0. However, the duos of Sharpe/Whitehead and Matthews/Lamm didn’t fair as well. Sharpe and Whitehead fell to the combo of Lucas and Hunting 2-8 while Matthews and Lamm were defeated by Igresl and Advox 4-8.
All in all, the Lady Bulldogs have been strving for excellence since the inception of this season, and on Wendesday afternoon a little piece of excellence was acheived. Nash Central will be back in action on Thursday afternoon at home against James B. Hunt High School.
