Come August 1st, 2016, prospective recruits to NCAA programs will have to meet heightened NCAA eligibility standards.
For one, as opposed to the minimum 2.0 GPA currently required, the new benchmark in terms of GPA will be increased to 2.3. In addition, prospective recruits will have to have completed 16 core classes in order to be eligible, and this consists of four English credits, three math credits, two natural/physical science credits, one extra math, English or science credit, and four years of additional courses from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy. Also, prospects must have 10 of the 16 core classes completed before senior year, with seven of 10 being in English, math, and science.
These changes are all a part of the effort to maintain the rigorous standards upheld by the NCAA, and they will certainly serve as a positive light in the recruiting process.
