If you walk through the halls of Nash Central High School, the experience will be breathtaking. You’ll meet exceptional leaders, athletes, and scholars. Despite this, it’s still unusual to meet a single individual who epitomizes each of these traits, so it’s definitely a plus for Nash Central High School to be home to students such as senior Emily Engelking. Emily Engelking is definitely one of Nash Central’s most well-rounded students, and she has certainly made an impact on the school itself.
Engelking has played volleyball for Nash Central throughout her high school career and has played volleyball for a total of six years. The Nash Central senior has started on Nash Central’s varsity volleyball team since her sophomore year, and she has most definitely been a vocal leader for the Lady Bulldogs. When asked what her favorite part of playing volleyball was, Emily responded by saying, “I love volleyball, because it’s a sport that you can really see the improvements that you make individually”. Engelking also voiced her love for the team aspect of the sport, saying that, ” Volleyball is also a great team sport, the bonds that you make with your team on and off the court are really special to me”.
In addition, when Engelking was asked to share her favorite volleyball memory, she definitely responded with a meaningful memory saying that “One volleyball memory that I will never forget, would have to be when we were up against Northern Nash on senior night, and the game was really tense because we had won two games, and they won the third game and this play could potentially be the match point. I remember like it just happened today. Kayla Sullivan passed the ball to Donna Moseley, Donna set the ball to me, and I hit the ball, and it was as if the whole gym was completely silent when the ball hit the floor in Northern’s side of the court. It was an amazing moment for our team, especially as the whole gym erupted in cheer and the students stormed the court.” Engelking’s passion for volleyball can certainly also be supported by the work she completed as led a volleyball camp this past summer at Nash Central. The intent of the camp was to help aspiring volleyball players in grades 6-12 to learn new skills and develop their overall game. Essentially, Engelking clearly enjoyed her time as a Nash Central volleyball player, and this experience was definitely meaningful to her.
While Engelking’s participation with Nash Central volleyball is notable, she is by no means a one-trick pony, and Engelking’s dedication to Nash Central High School has clearly been exhibited throughout her high school career. Her high-level of dedication can be supported by her membership with Nash Central’s FCA club since her freshman year and her accomplishment of being the first four-year show choir member in the history of Nash Central High School. Engelking has also participated in every school musical since her freshman year. On top of this, Engelking’s leadership skills also speak for themselves as serves as the senior class president and is the founder of the Nash Central Pep Club. Her leadership qualities are unquestionably superb, and this will definitely serve her will in her future. Due to her accomplishments at Nash Central High School, she will certainly leave behind an unparallel legacy.
In regards to her legacy, Engelking says that “I would love to leave the legacy of just being a well-rounded student. As senior class president I think it’s important to involve yourself in different areas of the school so that you can fit the needs and concerns of all students. I want the underclassmen to remember me as someone that really cared about others opinions and see how important it is to have a good relationship with all people.” This definitely shows how deeply Engelking cares for Nash Central, and the significance of being a Bulldog is also extremely sincere to her. When asked what being a Bulldogs means to her, Engelking said that “Being a bulldog is more than being a student at Nash Central High School. Being a bulldog, is acting as a representative of our school, and having pride in your school. The bulldog is a symbol of our entire school and stands for the students as a whole. I strive daily to make school a place where my fellow students and I would look forward to coming to. We are all looking towards the same goals, and that’s to graduate and to move on the bigger things. But it takes 4 years to graduate, and this should be a time to make the best of what you have. So, in the meantime, I’m going to live the maroon and continue to be a proud bulldog at Nash Central.”
Furthermore, Engelking’s scholarly pursuits are also evident as she plans to attend East Carolina University next fall while majoring in Secondary Education. After East Carolina, she hopes to become a high school English teacher while also pursuing a career in coaching volleyball. Engelking’s ambitions are undoubtedly well within reach, and the experiences she has had at Nash Central will obviously help her meet her goals.
All in all, Emily Engelking is most certainly one of Nash Central’s brightest students, and the impact she has had on Nash Central High School will unequivocally help her leave behind an unprecedented legacy with Nash Central High School when she graduates this upcoming spring…..
