Nash Central’s Big Day

image

On Thursday, March 3rd, the Nash Central Bulldogs enjoyed plentiful success with Nash Central’s boy’s tennis team, JV softball team, JV baseball team and varsity baseball team all picking up decisive victories on Thursday afternoon.

For the Bulldogs boy’s tennis program, juniors Jacob Richardson and Adam Moore were instrumental in Nash Central’s dominant 8-1 win over Southwest Edgecombe. Richardson and Moore both won their singles matches 2-0 while also winning in doubles play.  This particular victory was especially meaningful for Nash Central since the Bulldogs boy’s tennis team win earned their first team victory since the 2014 season on Thursday. Also, being first-year players, expect Richardson and Moore to play a pivotal role in Nash Central’s success this season as their potential is off-the-charts.

Nash Central’s JV softball team was also victorious on Thursday afternoon, beating Smithfield-Selma 10-5. Hailey Denton and Jordan Lane were the driving forces behind Nash Central’s offensive explosion, and Denton and Lane will definitely lead the Nash Central offense this season. In addition, while Nash Central’s varsity softball team fought resiliently and valiantly, the Bulldogs were not able to top Smithfield-Selma as they were simply just the better team on Thursday night.

Additionally, Nash Central’s JV baseball team showcased their offensive potency and pitching dominance on Thursday afternoon, winning 18-1 in just five innings of play against Smithfield-Selma. Behind the arm of Zack Vaughan, the Bulldogs allowed just one run while freshman third baseman Ben Lewis also made several key, run-saving defensive plays for the Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon. Offensively, David “Tiny” Winders was Nash Central’s most dangerous offensive threat, leading the Bulldogs in hits.

Nash Central’s varsity baseball team also played very well against Smithfield-Selma. The Bulldogs won 8-1 in seven innings thanks to the pitching excellence of Cameron Taylor, who pitched six innings of nearly shut-out ball, and the offensive brilliance of Noah Shrock, who was 2 of 3 at the plate while driving in two runs.

Furthermore, Nash Central’s varsity girl’s soccer team was also in action on Thursday afternoon, tying 0-0 against Beddingfield High School.

Nash Central’s Magic Season Comes To An End

Bulldogs

In November, Nash Central head coach Terri Cash really didn’t know what to expect from her team, but as soon as the season rolled around, Cash knew that this team was destined for greatness.

However, on Saturday night, the Lady Bulldogs came up just a bit short in their third round matchup against Northern Guildford, falling 57-51 in overtime. Despite the loss, Nash Central definitely has nothing to be ashamed of, and the Lady Bulldogs should feel nothing less than immense pride. Achieving a 22-5 record with a 9-1 record in league play is an exceptionally difficult task, and the Lady Bulldogs should undeniably be respected and commended for their efforts this season.

In regards to the season, head coach Terri Cash clearly has uplifting words to describe her team, and the pride she held while coaching the Lady Bulldogs this season was also expressed as she said “I was very pleased with this team. I felt like they worked hard to reach their goals.  The girls were receptive to what we were trying to accomplish. We met two goals that we had set this season. I feel like the girl’s grew as both players and young women.

As for the team, Nash Central seniors, Rebecca Speight, Caresha Leonard, Anaiya Harris, and Kathryn Wilkins were pivotal to Nash Central’s success, and these four talented seniors were definitely heavy contributors throughout their Nash Central careers.

In respect to the future of the Lady Bulldogs, and while Nash Central will be losing a great deal of talent due to graduation, the Lady Bulldogs should have no reason to worry since Nash Central will return leading scorers Robbi Allen (14.6 PPG) Michaela Helms (11.9 PPG), Myia Spivey (8.6 PPG), and Kayalin Mitchell (6.3 PPG) this fall as the Lady Bulldogs will look surpass what they were able to achieve this season.
